phpBB: Upgrade fails (timeout) – solution and how to update on the CLI

Filed under: PHP,Server Administration — Tags: , , , , , , , — Christopher Kramer @ 10:46

So if you are getting a Timeout when updating phpBB to 3.2.2, it tells you to either increase the maximum time limit or do the update on the CLI.

How to update on the CLI

Of course, this requires that you have access to the CLI.

  • On the CLI, go into the install folder of phpBB
  • Create a file named config.yml that contains this:
    updater:
        type: db_only
  • Make sure the above file does not end with newlines
  • Run:
    php ./phpbbcli.php update config.yml

Fixing the update timeout problem

In my case, the CLI update gave this error:

PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function fetch_array() on resource in [...]/install/update/new/phpbb/db/migration/data/v32x/fix_user_styles.php on line 42

This is a bug in the migration script. The most easy way to fix it, is to go into your config.php and change the $dbms from mysql to mysqli. This is recommended anyway.

If this is not possible for you, open the mentioned file and search for:

$enabled_styles = $result->fetch_array();

And replace this with:

$enabled_styles = $this->db->sql_fetchrowset($result);

Typo3 6.2 and Crawler Failed opening required ‘PATH_t3libclass.t3lib_page.php’

Filed under: Typo3 — Tags: , , , , , , — Christopher Kramer @ 11:28

Typo3 6.2 with the current version of the crawler from TER (3.5) gives this error when executed by the planner from cron:

PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'PATH_t3libclass.t3lib_page.php' (include_path='[...]') in [...]typo3conf/ext/crawler/class.tx_crawler_lib.php on line 30

Or if you open the crawler module in the Info-Module, you get only a blank screen and these errors in the log:

PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'PATH_t3libclass.t3lib_pagetree.php' (include_path='[...]') in [...]typo3conf/ext/crawler/modfunc1/class.tx_crawler_modfunc1.php on line 30, referer: http://[...]/typo3/mod.php?M=web_info&moduleToken=[...]

PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'PATH_t3libclass.t3lib_pagetree.php' (include_path='[...]') in [...]/typo3conf/ext/crawler/modfunc1/class.tx_crawler_modfunc1.php on line 30, referer: http://[...]/typo3/backend.php

I found a bug report for this exists in the crawler bugtracker for over a year now. And the current crawler version 3.6.2 also fixes the problem, but for some reason is not in the TER yet. So to solve the problem:

Download crawler version 3.6.2 and replace “/typo3conf/ext/crawler/” with the contents of this archive.

Hope this helps somebody solving the issue faster.

Inkscape: Dialog windows do not open on multi-screen setups

Filed under: Windows — Tags: , , , , , , — Christopher Kramer @ 17:06

I am using a multiscreen setup with one small landscape screen and one big portrait screen.

When I try to open a dialog like the Inkscape settings or the document settings in Inkscape, it does not open. Or more precisely, I cannot see it because it is positioned outside the visible area. I have this problem with current Inkscape 0.48.4 on Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

The bug is known for some time but unfortunately not fixed.

But I found a great and easy workaround which I want to share with you here: Whenever you cannot see a window because it is offscreen, press [Windows-Key] [arrow-up-key]. This shortcut maximizes the current window and you can use it normally. This probably only works on Windows 7 and newer.

You can also use the left or right arrow-key to position the window on the left or right half of the screen.

Happy drawing! 🙂
